What would it be like to be homeless? Does Jesus love the people on the streets? Could I survive out there?
Mike Yankoski did more than just ask hypothetical questions. By his own choice, Mike's life went from upper-middle class plush to scum-of-the-earth repulsive overnight. With only a backpack, a sleeping bag and a guitar, Mike and his traveling companion, Sam, set out to experience life on the streets in six different cities. From Washington D.C. to San Diego, they put themselves to the test and pushed their faith into new realms.
For more than five months Mike and Sam experienced firsthand the extreme pains of hunger, the constant uncertainty and danger of living on the streets, exhaustion, depression, and social rejection—and all of this by their own choice. They wanted to find out if their faith was real, if they could actually be the Christians they claimed to be apart from the comforts they’d always known. They wanted to discover first hand what it means to be homeless in America, and how Christians are--or aren't--responding with Jesus-like love.
Now Mike Yankoski has a passion to inspire audiences around the world to put their faith into action, to serve the least of these, and to follow God to the margins of our society.
Michael is a PhD Candidate at the University of Notre Dame in Moral Theology and International Peace Studies, has served on the Board of Directors at World Vision, and is the author of four books.
"The presentation was absolutely wonderful. People loved his message, his passion, the humility in which he presented, the challenge he gave to Christians to think about putting faith in action....Mike's experience and his ability to share it were absolutely appreciated and impactful. I would recommend him to anyone. I very much appreciated that Mike began communicating with me directly and has since done that with follow up emails. He makes himself available and I just love that. More of his humble approach. I wish him nothing but blessings as he continues to serve the Lord. He is a gift for sure."
“Mike was so gracious and everyone enjoyed hearing him speak. From our evaluations of the banquet, we were told that the speaker needed more time. We appreciate Mike’s endorsement of the ministry and we pray that God will continue to bless him through his ministry outreach. God bless you all.”
“Mike was engaging, passionate, and inspiring. We accomplished everything we hoped and much more by scheduling him to come and speak at our annual banquet. We also launched a homeless awareness luncheon in order to build better relationships with other social service providers and local businesses. Mike was outstanding in presenting the need in an eloquent and intelligent manner that resonated well with this group.”
