JULIE MAKIMAA

Raised as an adopted child, Julie discovered she was the product of rape after reuniting with her birth mother

After being raised as an adopted child, Julie discovered she was the product of rape after reuniting with her birth mother. Thankful for the sacrifices of her adoptive parents and birth mother, Julie shares her personal story to encourage others to recognize the tremendous value of every life.

Julie is the founder of Sparrow Resources; an organization dedicated to defending women who have become pregnant through sexual assault and children conceived in rape or incest. Together with Dave Reardon, President of the Elliot Institute, and well-known post-abortion researcher, Julie has compiled, Victims and Victors: Speaking Out About Their Pregnancies, Abortions, and Children Resulting from Sexual Assault. The book uses the combined experiences of 264 women and children and provides a definitive response to the argument for abortion in assault pregnancies.

She has testified before a number of state legislatures, lobbied Congress and appeared on numerous radio and television talk shows, including Donahue, Geraldo and Sally Jesse Raphael. Her story has appeared in many national newspapers and magazines, including the Los Angeles Times and Washington Times and Glamour.

Julie is the past Director of the Michigan Prayer Network and Life Issues Advocate for Family Research Council.

Julie continues to publicly share her personal story of tragedy turned to triumph and challenges the necessity for abortion in cases of rape and incest.
